Namakkal is famous for Hanuman temple, Sri Namagiri Thayar’s merciness and Lakshmi Narasimha cave temple. River Cauvery is the main river flowing in this area.
Vasishta Nadhi and Sweda Nadhi are the two rivers flowing through Attur taluk in Namakal. The important tourist places in Namakkal are Namakkal Fort which was built during Madurai Nayak regime and it is famous for Sri Narasimhamurthy temple. There is a story for this temple. Narasimhaswamy after killing Hiranya Kasipu, was in a ferocious mood and then he was cooled and brought to this place which is the location of this temple developed here. In this temple we can see Goddess Lakshmi in penance. In addition to this Lord Hanuman was added to this temple who is praying Lakshmi Narayanan. There is also a temple called Ardhanareeswarar temple in Nammakal. It is located in the top of the hill. The significance of this name is Lord Shiva gives his half to Goddess Parvathy. So the lord here is called Ardhanareeswarar. There is one hill called Kolli hills in Namakkal which is being developed as a tourist spot.
